Catherine Zweig, MFA

Artist & Educator

Catherine Zweig is a visual artist and educator with over thirty years of experience spanning professional studio practice, curriculum development and a dedicated teaching practice at both higher education and secondary settings. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and institutions, including a notable two-person exhibition at the Columbus Museum of Art and another at Penn State University, Harrisburg.

Prior to her undergraduate studies, Catherine took a gap year to Zürich, Switzerland studying German, printmaking and psychology. Enjoying international travel, she returned again to Zurich, and then Florence, Italy where she spent two separate years studying first at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze, and later at Studio Art Centers International. Completing her MFA at Bowling Green State University, with her deep interest in fine arts practice and pedagogy, she was hired full time both at the School of Art and separately as a core faculty member of the Chapman Learning Community, an interdisciplinary residential learning community. It was at this time she met Matthew Reynolds, her long time partner and collaborator.

With her return to California in 2000, she has been involved in a number of grant funded projects, including co-authoring with Matthew a professional development program running five years for K-3 teachers at Morgan Hill Unified School District, receiving the 2005 Exemplary Program Award from the California Art Education Association.

In 2006, Catherine received her Teaching Credential in Art from Santa Clara University, and has focused her teaching at the high school level, including ceramics and the advanced art courses including many years of AP Art.

Currently, Catherine is working on a new body of work, exploring themes of body, mind and healing, under the umbrella of narrative medicine. Her recent accomplishments include completion of Harvard Medical School's Media and Medicine Certificate.

I'm always curious about where art, people, and story might meet. Have an idea for collaboration? I'd love to hear it.
